Do I have a problem with drugs and/or alcohol use?

ASC understands that it is often a difficult decision to begin to examine yourself and your drugs and/or alcohol use. These questions may help you to explore whether or not you have a problem with drugs and/or alcohol.

  1. Do you spend a lot of time thinking about your alcohol and/or drug use?

  2. Do you feel that you are losing control over your alcohol and/or drug use?

  3. Are you unable to stop once you start drinking/using? Do you often intend to just have one or two and end up using/drinking much more?

  4. Do you feel that you need to drink and/or use to feel normal?

  5. Are you irritable when you don’t have alcohol and/or drugs?

  6. Do you spend more money than you want to on alcohol and/or drugs?

  7. Do you spend a significant amount of your time finding, waiting or drinking /using?

  8. Do you want to quit, reduce or change your drinking/using but can’t?

  9. Do you feel down/ depressed when you’re out of alcohol and/or drugs?

  10. Do you lie about how much you are drinking and/or using?

  11. Have you been late or missed commitments and/or work because of your alcohol and/or drug use?

  12. Is your life a struggle?

  13. Does it take alcohol and/or drugs to make you feel good?

  14. Do you increasingly surround yourself with people that use alcohol and/or drugs?

  15. Are you finding that you need to take more alcohol and/or drugs to get drunk/high?

  16. Are you increasingly experiencing more conflict with your loved ones or people close to you about your alcohol and/or drug use?

  17. Do you feel guilty about your alcohol and/or drug use?

  18. Do you break promises to yourself and/or to others because of your alcohol and/or drug use?

  19. Do you feel that your drinking and/or using is affecting your health?

  20. Do you find that you are avoiding having to spend time with people that don’t drink and/or use?

A yes answer to any of the above questions may indicate that you could have a problem with drugs and/or alcohol and you could benefit from exploring these issues further with the help of ASC.
